Liposuction - Body Contouring Procedure

Liposuction, also known as lipoaspiration or liposculpture, is the surgical method used to remove fatty tissue. This is also one of the most common plastic operations in the world.

What does liposuction involve?

Liposuction is the most effective method of body contouring in problem areas. In this way, fat deposits can be selectively removed by suction. This reduces fat tissue in certain areas of your body. With liposuction, you can flatten your abdomen, reshape your hips, thighs or buttocks, you can intervene on your waist, calves or ankles, and you can reduce fat deposits on your arms or hips. For this reason, there are several types of liposuction:

  • Neck liposuction;
  • Thigh liposuction;
  • Arm liposuction;
  • Abdominal liposuction;
  • Leg liposuction.

Depending on the treated areas and their size, liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, or general anesthesia.

When is body contouring recommended?

The liposuction body contouring procedure is recommended for people who are not happy with how they look and cannot get rid of excess fat through diet or sport. Basically, it's the procedure to correct what cannot be done by the usual methods.

What are the benefits of liposuction?

First of all, liposuction helps you feel better about yourself. In addition, you can only remove fat from certain parts of the body, so you can intervene only on problem areas. Moreover, within a relatively short period of time, most patients can return to work without problems, gradually resuming all usual physical activities.

How long is the recovery period after liposuction and what does it consist in?

After liposuction, it is normal for the operated area to become swollen. Whether we are talking about abdominal liposuction, leg liposuction , thigh liposuction, or any other kind of body contouring, there will be bruising in the treated area. You may also feel a little discomfort, which you can relieve with painkillers. You should know that for a few weeks you will be wearing compression garments and elastic bandages to accelerate the reduction of swelling and to enable the skin to compress on the new contour. In particularly rare cases, patients need to have temporary drains fitted under the skin. They are designed to help the body remove excess fluid more easily from the treated area. Depending on the type of liposuction chosen, you can resume your usual activities in 3 to 4 days. On the other hand, you may also need a more complex liposuction procedure, in which case bed rest for 7 days is recommended. Most of the time, the bruising reduces substantially and even disappears completely after the first 10 days. Light physical exercises can be resumed after 2 - 3 weeks, then you can move gradually to greater physical effort. You will also have to have regular check-ups for a year, initially every 2-3 days, with their subsequent intervals to be determined according to the evolution.

What are the risks of lipostructure?

The risks of lipostructure surgery are the same as in all cases of surgery, and mainly consist in bleeding, infection or certain adverse reactions after administration of anesthetic substances.
